Samara Doumnande (SamDoum for short) has studied at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design as well as the Rochester Institute of Technology where she graduated with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts and a degree in Interior Design. She has just recently released a spoken word album (click here to see) as well as e-book (click here to see) both entitled "Bible Tales: The First Five Books in Rhyme (for children and adults)" and is also working on her first play, "A Tale of Antinara," which is soon to be released, in upcoming years. Samara is also the author of several blogs including "The Blog of SamDoum Art" which discusses the artistic process behind this very website (click here to visit), as well as BibleTalesOnline.com, a site whose main objective is to make reading the Bible a fun, easy, and entertaining experience by utilizing the use of rhythm, rhyme, spoken word, and poetry: (click here to visit).
Now that all of that has been spoken, let us discuss art, shall we!? : Samara's subject matters for her paintings and drawings are inspired by the late artists Mary Cassatt and Henry Ossawa Tanner, as the themes of women with children, as well as African American daily life permeate her drawings and paintings.
Samara's favorite medium to work in is pastel as she loves to get her fingers dirty as she rubs her fingers across the paper, blending colors, forming lines and shapes, smudging and becoming one with the painting and/or drawing, so to speak. However, she also works in other mediums, including charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, and oil paint.
Samara lives in Rochester, New York with her husband and three children.
As always, please feel free to contact Samara anytime HERE and she will be delighted to get back with you!
